Well, today would have to have been the most eventful day since I have been home from Clemson. I went to Broome High School in Spartanburg and judged colorguard and drum major tryouts. I had an absolute blast. It was so cool to be able to go and help pick out next year's leadership at Broome. While I do believe I saw more flag twirling than I ever wanted to see in my life, it was fun. The best part was definitely drum major tryouts. It was so hard because there were 5 very eligible candidates. In the end, we chose a very good drum major. Cory and I both agreed on the same candidate.
Watching them and being at a high school really put things into perspective for me. It has motivated me to be the best I can possibly be this my last year in band. It has encouraged me to just let loose and have fun with the job. So many times I get uptight and a little subduded thinking that something is gonna go wrong or the band is gonna talk bad about me... but this is gonna be my last year. I am not a drum major for anyone else but me... and while I do have a responsibility to serve the band, I do it because I enjoy it. I am going to do the best job possible this season and have the most fun possible as well. I am SO ready.
Once I got back from Spartanburg, I came home and no one was here. It was like 6:30 and I was so bored and lonely. Well, I plopped onto the floor here in the study and started talking online (yes, the internet works all the time on my computer... convenient, however uncomfortable). One of my block 3 divas, Ellen, had left me a message saying she misse me. It was sweet. Well, I responded and we started talking about life since we had been home. She started talking about how she has hung out with people from high school and has been having a good time. Well, I told her that I don't really hang out with anyone from high school... I've either grown apart from them, don't know where they are, or they have pretty much not done anything with their lives. It really made me think... In high school, it was always Megan, Rachel, Amanda, the Matts, Andy, Brian, and I... Well, even as much as I see 2 of the Matts and Andy, we aren't incredibly close anymore... I pretty much attribute it to conflict of interest. As for the other Matt, I am actually talking to him right now. He seems to be the most grown up out of all of us. We talk every blue moon, but when we do, we talk more in dept than when I talk to one of the other guys. As for the girls, I saw Megan on campus like twice a semester... I actually saw her about a week or 2 before I left. She said to call her sometime this summer... but I hadn't talked toi Amanda or Rachel in probably about a year or so. So I called their house today. Surprisingly, I dialed the number without having to look it up. It's amazing how I haven't used it in so long but I still knew it so well...
**INTERRUPTION: So, I'm watching TV, and I just HAVE to comment on this cute little black boy in this Oscar Meyer weiner commercial... you have GOT to see it. He is so funny!**
Okay. Anyway, I talked to Rachel. She is good. It was SOOOO good to talk to her. AS soon as I heard her voice this huge smile came across my face. We exchanged cell numbers and are planning to hang out soon. Then I called Megan (once again having remembered her number), but she was at work. I'll get in touch with her soon. It was good to try to establish contact with these people.
And, tonight, I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire... I started it last summer... lol. I think I'm gonna go by the 5th book tomorrow... this book was actually kinda scary at the end! It was so good though! I can't believe how much I have been reading lately... I think of it as inspiration for Tree #3 though... it's doing quite delightful, by the way...
