thoughts on receiving a college ring

So two days ago, I got my Clemson University Class of 2005 ring. It was quite uneventful compared to the night that I got my Eastside Class of 2001 ring... No glitz and glamour. No friends there receiving their rings at the same time... no one to shake hands with... no one to take pictures of my new ring. I drove up to the Greer post office with $400 cash in my pocket ready to pay for my ring COD and no one was there but a bunch of Greer, SC bumpkins.

The lady that gave me my ring was really nice though. She asked, "Is this your ring?" and I replied that it was. She asked where I was grauduating from and I said, "Clemson." That is when it kinda hit me. There is less than a year standing between me and that degree. I can't believe that it is almost over. It's like it JUST started. Yesterday, I was recounting to Wilene, Katie, Bryce, and Julie about the first day of class freshman year when I cried walking back to my dorm from class because I missed Eastside so much. Now I stand on the edge of Clemson looking out over a completely unknown canyon.

I know that I want to go to grad school. I mean, that is pretty much a given. Until now, I had my heart set on the University of Georgia. But now that I am old enough and realize that Australia isn't really as unattainable as I once thought, I am seriously looking for grad schools there. Just today, Rebecca Poe (a former Tiger Band DM) IMed me looking for a couple football tickets. She told me that she is going to grad school at Nottingham University in England. I mean, that is so exciting! Little ol' Rebecca Poe going to LIVE and take classes in England. That was definitely a reassurance to me that I could go to Australia.

Tarik told me the other day that whatever I do, I need to get started pretty soon. If I am going to get any money to go anywhere, I need to apply now. Not just because it is best to apply early for money, but once the 2nd week of August hits, I am going to be RIDICULOUSLY busy with band, class, observing at Central Elementary, my awesome new apartment with my incredibly cool roomies... I just have tons to look forward to.

Just today I was thinking about how far it is until all that stuff happens. I mean, I can practically TASTE marching band... I can SEE myself in my new apartment... I just FEEL the excitement of being in that classroom at Central. I'm so ready for all of it. But, if I tell myself that I want to have applied for grad school by the end of July, then it doesn't look like I have that much time anymore. I mean, grad school... It just seems so bizarre. I'm ready though. A little lost, but definitely ready.

Up until now, I knew where I would be the following year. I knew in 5th grade that the following year I would be at Northwood in the 6th grade. In 8th grade, I knew that the following year I would be at Eastside in the 9th grade. I was even confident enough to know that in 12th grade, the next chapter in my life would be my freshman year at Clemson. Now that I am in the "16th grade" I don't really know what is next. I know what I want to do... but then again, I don't really know where I want to do it. Athens, GA; Australia... Where?

And another question that scares me even more... who will I experience this time with?

a big weekend for delightful*

It's late... and I'm kinda tired... but I just wanted to toot my own horn about the entry I just wrote in delightful*. It is REALLY long and it took me about 2 hours to write, so I am really proud of it. For those of you who have kept up with Miss Delia Johnson, it is a huge turning point in her story.

I'm really glad I didn't give up on that blog. It is a lot of fun to write fiction. It is even more fun to write it as the narrative of something that is so NOT like me.

As Delia says, "Delightfully yours..."

my life at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry

So since tonight, I already told you that I was a foreign exchange student from England... well, here is a little bit of info about me and my "school" back in England...

the act

So, my dear friends Mandy and Whipple are pretty much the ONLY people from high school that I didn't graduate with that I still keep in contact with when I am home from college. Whenever we go out, we always do stupid stuff that is pretty much completely out of character. We normally go downtown and act as if I am a drug pushing pimp and they are my hos, and once I played Mandy's pretend older sister's black boyfriend (which was unacceptable to her pretend parents), Dexter Wendelequan Washington III (my nickname was Dex and I was SUPER rich). So, whenever we go out we had a blast. However tonight, we pretended to be people we aren't for the longest time that we have ever attempted it.

First of all, I have to preface this great story with a little episode that happened on Main Street downtown. So, we were walkin' trying to find a bathroom for Mandy and Whip when these ghetto hoochie-fied girls go, "Hey, were you with my mama last night?" I was like, "Wait a minute, does she look like you?" The girl was like, "Yeah." And then I said, "Well no, 'cause you're ugly." HAHA! It was so funny. But then this banshee lookin' loud mouth hot comb needin' slut girl comes up to me and is like, "You ain't talkin' 'bout her mama, 'cause then you talkin' 'bout my mama!" And I was like, "So? Why don't you come back and find me when you get an education." It was so great. I HATE DUMB PE0PLE! GAH!

Anyway, so after downtown, we went to the Waffle House on Roper Mountain Road. We decided to talk in our foreign exchange accents... Mandy and Whip do great Scottish accents and I do a pretty good English accent. Well, we talked in these accents for about a full hour and a half. We ordered in them, argued in them, and best of all, carried on a LONG in depth conversation with the Waffle House employees in them. We told them that we were foreign exchange students studying at Furman and we acted like we had no clue how things worked or were done in America. Our waitress, Shannon, was VERY anti South Carolina. She said that South Carolina was a weird place and that people were rude and backbiting and that she couldn't trust anyone. Then the two cooks came and started talking to us to. They were like, "So where are you guys from?" Mandy and Whip claimed to be from Iverness, Scotland and I said I was from London, England. They bought it SO EASILY!!! They kept asking us questions like why we decided to come to South Carolina and whether we liked it or not and when we were returning. They even told us all about the 4th of July (which they said was just an excuse to get drunk and act crazy along with every other holiday). They also warned us of how to talk to people and adress certain issues and people and how NOT to get caught drinking under age (we told them how much we missed the lower drinking age in our "native countries"). I even told them about how my "cousin Ivan" lived down the street from Hugh Grant's summer home in Leeds. The workers got a kick out of Mandy talking about how here father was a champion sheep herder and me professing my loyalty to the queen of England and my theory that Prince Charles would die before the queen and never become the head of the country. Mandy then proceeded to talk about the sexuality of Prime Minister Tony Blair and I started bashing the integrity of former President Bill Clinton. Then we started talking about the current President Bush... I said some horrible things about the man, and one of the cooks warned me not to say certain things about the President because if the right people were around, all it would take were a few phone calls and I could be shipped away. I told him to bring it on and send me back to England!!! It was SOOOO funny.

I had such a great time tonight. Tonight, ironically, helped me appreciate the country I live in. I'm not an Englishman, but I am an American. At night when I go to sleep, I have to realize that this is the country I reside in, and as long as I am here, I have to deal with the issues of this land. But, tonight also really got me interested in traveling to another country. I talked to my mom and while she doesn't like the idea of me LIVING for GOOD all the way in Australia, she says that it would be interesting for me to study over there... Who knows, maybe England is in the future for me as well...

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.

LOL.

happy f-ing fourth of july

I don't want to make this entry sound nonchalant... or angry... I really don't want this entry to have very much of a mood at all. I just want it to sound serious. I am not playing right now. The disappointment I have in my heart is something real and it's not meant to be taken for play, or is it meant to be taken as me being insanely upset. But, I am mad at this country and I want out.

Yeah... I know that this is a great thing to come by on the 228th anniversary of our independence, but things have just been escalating, and quite frankly, I have always thought of America as a big bully. So we whipped up on the Brits, Nazis, and Vietnamese, and now we are fighting in the middle east. I just want to live somewhere that doesn't have a history of fighting all the time. I mean, yeah, we were attacked on September 11, 2001... It sucked. It was sad. Lots of people died. Well, as elementary as this is gonna sound, does that mean that we have to avenge ourselves. We teach kids over and over again to treat others as we would like to be treated. Obviously, Al Qaeda and all those other middle eastern fellows (I don't know specifics... I try to stay out of all of this mess) aren't living by this golden rule, but if we turn around and bomb them and kill them, then we are jut making things worse. I know it seems as if I don't know what I'm talking about... I don't watch the news... mostly because I don't want to hear about this stuff. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that there is some heavy duty BS going on in the world, and the United States has a lot to do with it. Sure, we stand for freedom and all, but do we stand for freedom at the cost of innocent lives lost? I'm gonna stop talking about this in a minute, becase I KNOW that I don't know enough about all of this warfare and foreign policy and political crap to REALLY make a valid statement or be a legitimate voice of reason, but all I know is that in my ignorance, I have discovered that I don't WANT to know about all of this... I don't want to have to be worried with the affairs of my country. It is "my right" to have a say in what goes on, and not to have a say... I relinquish all of my rights to have a say in what goes on to the people who have a f-ing clue... Those loud mouth political people who can argue for hours on end about policy and all that BS... I really wouldn't like to be bothered with that mess. I know it is QUITE unpatriotic of me, but if you ask me, the only time America is really patriotic is when 50,000 people die in two 110 story collapsed buildings or the 4th day in the month of July. We are such fair weather citzens... But like I said, I'm not going to talk about it anymore, because I DON'T know what I'm talking about... Just getting my thoughts out is enough for me.

But I am going to do something about it. I have ALWAYS always ALWAYS wanted to move to Australia. When I think of paradise, I think of this little continent sitting humbly in the cool waters of the South Pacific. I think I said it in one of my more recent entries that I am moving there... I have made up my mind that I really am. This school year, I am going to do a lot of research and find out what I can do to go there. I would love to go there for grad school and maybe start my life there then, but if I have to, I would go to grad school there and then move out there. Regardless, I want to go there TO LIVE. I've always wanted to live in Sydney. TELL ME that this isn't beautiful...
So on first glance, this place wins. I am pretty ignorant about Australia and it's politics too, so I think that I am going to definitely have to research that too. But, from what I can tell, they seem to stay out of worldly drama... and the big bad United States hasn't had to go and intervene to help them in any way, so it would seem to me that they are a pretty okay group of "mates." But like I said, I am going to research. I gotta get up out of this land of the free and home of the so brave that they have to go fight everyone else's battle for them...

#1 web result in a search for "king congruence"

So get this... I just got back from The Stepford Wives (personally, I enjoyed it and thought it was good... everyone else either said it sucked or that it was going to suck, so I don't know whether my fondness of the movie is that of truly liking it, or rooting for it because it had the odds against it). Well, since I liked it so much, I decided to research the original movie that was made in 1975. So, with the aid of my trusty Yahoo!, I searched for info on it (yes, I know that Blogger is a product of Google, but I started using Yahoo! before Google ever came out and I can't bring myself to switch... there's just something about all those Os). I found the info I was looking for and then got a little bored. So I put in "king congruence" to the search field. It turns out that when it returns the top 20 web results, THIS VERY BLOG WAS NUMBER 1! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I mean, that has got to be a feat. That means that out of all the sites on the internet that are related to the words "king" and "congruence," (which is said to be out of about 21,700 sites) MY BLOG has the most hits. DANG I'm good. Take that, Tripp...

word vomit

In the movie Mean Girls, the main character, Cady, talks about having "word vomit." It's kinda like when you have something you REALLY need to say and you can't control it from coming up... and when it does, it just comes out in a way that you weren't expecting at all. Well, I think I have a lot to say. Or at least in my mind it feels like it's a lot. Sometimes when I get to writing it doesn't seem to be much... but I feel like I have a lot coming.

First of all, Tree #3. For those of you who don't know what this elusive code name is for it is Delightful. Delightful is a fictional story about a college age girl at a fictional university in Atlanta, Georgia. The whole reason I came up with it was because I was absolutely bored at home, and the past year was so dramatic, I wanted to live it out again, but through the eyes of someone not so quite like me. However, lots of the situations in the story came from things that I have heard, seen, or have experienced. I have REALLY enjoyed writing in it and I would HATE to stop writing in it... however, I have been slacking off so much on it, that I don't feel as if I am doing it justice. I mean, I think it's a really good story. I had people believing that it was real. I had people thinking that it was a real girl at a real school with real issues. But no, it's just a figment of my imagination. One of my friends (who shall remain anonymous because I don't know if she would want to admit how addicted she is to it) fusses at me when I don't update it like I should. So, I guess what have come to is, I either need to let Delia Johnson go, or vow to keep her life up to date... I would HATE to throw away what I believe to be such good literature (you can go check it out for yourself). I mean, I am very proud of my work, and I think that the best thing for me to do is plan out a time to write at least every other day, if not daily. Maybe it will even help me build responsibility... So hold on, Delia Johnson... I still gotcha.

Secondly, this camp is making me feel so ridiculously old. I mean, yeah, it's GREAT to almost be 21, but when I look back on life, the years that these campers are in were the best of my life. People always say that college is the best time of your life... well, I think I beg to differ. There is always difficult school work, drama with friends, pointless arguments with people, trying out the whole dating game, lack of money, limbo between adolescence and adulthood... I think this is a very trying time. High school was SO awesome. No matter what was going on at school, I could always go home and relax from it. In college, it's hard to get away... you live with the people you go to class with, and there is constantly something you have to do that is affiliated with college life. In high school, you can have your school life and your home life, and it doesn't get all jumbled up. I kinda miss that. I miss being able to act like a total idiot and blaming it on the fact that I was only in high school and not mature enough to realize how decent I was supposed to act. I liked it when I was a teenager... and I knew that I was older than a kid and younger than an adult... now, it's like I want to act like a teenager, but I want the respect of the adults that I am in constant contact with. It's so frustrating. And it doesn't get any better... which leads me to my 3rd point...

Politics. I hate f-ing politics. Yesterday, Bryn, Tripp, and Bryce went to see Farenheit 9/11. They came back with all the terrible things that they learned from the movie. I HATE George W. Bush. Oh, but don't go and get upset, you staunch Republican conservatives... I don't really like Kerry either... or Nader. I wish that we could truly live in a Utopian society... and my utopia would be one that was free of politics, because politics is what gets people so fired up... and what in essence kills and controls money. So, yes, I hate politics. I have decided to move out of this country to escape it. I'm going to Australia... seriously, one day, I am.

Next week is my week off... I am glad to have a free week, but it's not like I'm gonna do anything fun. I mean, first of all, I will have class (even though it will only be an online class), second of all, my mom is expecting me to come home... and even though I enjoyed home in high school, in college, it sucks, 'cause my mom wants to treat me like I am still IN high school and keep me in and around the house doing chores and cleanin' up after her, my dad, and my brother. I would love to go somewhere... but there is really nowhere to go. I would actually enjoy staying here in Dookieblue and maybe going home for a day or two... but being at home in Greenville for a week? TRAGIC. And on top of this, I would never be able to tell my mom, "No, I don't want to come home." I don't know what she'd do. I think she'd flip.

Finally, it is a camper... This week, I have a rising 6th grader. I am SO worried about him. First of all, one day last week, Mrs. Coffey's assistant calls me and tells me that I am going to get 2 students that are both from very peculiar situations... bad home lives, not too great an economic background... well, I looked at this as a challenge. Well, when only one of the 2 showed up, I was kinda relieved. But them I realized how old this boy was... he is a rising 6th grader. The youngest kid at the camp. On top of that, his roommate didn't show, so he is all alone tonight... and he might be all week. Well, he is just so little... age wise and in stature... he is just a little boy. And you can tell how young he is, just by his interaction with the other kids. He clings to me, which I don't have a problem with, but it just makes me feel for him. I want to be around him 24/7 to make sure that he isn't lonely and that no one picks on him and that he's not scared and that he has a good time. I'm just so worried. I want him to be here, and I want him to have a GREAT experience here, but I just don't know if he is ready for it. He makes me so nervous. And on top of that... I feel like I was given this responsibility. Mrs. Coffey's assistant's exact words were "they need a mentor-type person." So, this was one of those times that God gave me something to do, and I gotta do it. I feel like it is my responsibility to make sure that he has a good time and thatn everything goes well for him. He's just so young and seems so impressionable. I just don't understand why they allowed such a young kid to come to a big scary college campus??? Who knows. I just hope I can help him enjoy his time... and stay safe.

Okay, so I think that is it. See, I guess I didn't have as much to talk about as I thought. I'm glad I got some of that off my chest. Today, Kurt said that I didn't seem very happy, and I think part of it was because I was so weighed down by that ish. I hope this is a good week...

To the campers... ENJOY YOUR HIGH SCHOOL YEARS! THEY ARE THE BEST YEARS OF YOUR LIFE!

i promise i'll do better!

I audioblogged today. When I get a break from the kids, I don't use my free time to blog. So, you will have to deal with hearing my voice for now. I promise to write eventually... maybe tonight. I have had a lot on my mind, so I really need to empty out some of my thoughts. I will say though, that the new kids have arrived... and I'm still not over the kids that left a week ago. I still think about them all the time. There is a little shout out to them in the audioblog, so you can hear it there. Other than that, there are only about 50 kids this week, so it should be pretty laid back. Maybe I will get several chances to write this week. More later...

a few words before bed...

1. Western Civ final exam at 8 am... I don't know if I am more excited that it is going to be over or more frightened about taking it.

2. The kids this week are... weird... and they are loud and obnoxious, and just not the same as last week. Professionally, I really need to get over the last 2 weeks, but emotionally, I can't.

3. Yeah... Number 3 was going to be about how much I miss the kids from last week, but in an attempt to not be so redundant, we will move on to number 4...

4. I got to see Missy and eat with her, "Momma," and Hoke tonight. I love Missy... and all my other littles (Mandy, Bryn, Kate, and grandlittle, Erin).

5. It is 12:01 am which means there are exactly 51 days until I turn 21.

6. That also means that there are only 7 hours and 59 minutes until my exam commences... I guess it's bedtime.

7. But before that, Tripp started a blogspot because he obviously saw how cool mine are. Go take a look. (Please disregard the fact that I commented on his first entry twice... That really warrants a placement in dumb pe0ple, I do believe).

sad day

I am really depressed right now. I know that it's really kinda stupid, and even sad in itself, but seriously, I am not in the best of moods. The campers that have been here for the past 2 weeks left today. I am not exaggerating when I say that they are the best group of campers that I have EVER worked with. Hands down, they are the elite. Fun, well behaved, just all around good kids. I found myself more FRIENDS with them than just a counselor to them... and that is what made this week so special.

I honestly could hang out all day with that group of kids. I could listen to Reggie's Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes all day... I could watch Ashwin try to dance and Matty dance circles around him all day... I could talk about Chi Omega to no end with Ryan... I could debate with David all day... I could listen to Cheech sing It's Raining Men all day... I could listen to Michelle talk in her little country accent all day... I could talk to Orange Chris about band all day... I could try to prove to Rico that I still have my "pimp juice" all day... I could listen to Alex's homemade raps all day long... I could even sit in Harcombe while they all surrounded me asking if they could leave--all day long. They were all that cool.

Throughout the disagreements, annoyances, laughs, scowls, and smiles, I had an excellent time. All I hope is that I get to stay in touch with some or all of the campers. This week alone has really made me want to come back as a counselor next year... and it's really got me nervous about next week... I know the kids aren't going to be as much fun or as cool as the kids from this week. We already have "The Archies" here... some of them are just as stuck up as they wanna be. They obviously don't know me that well...

a word from d@vid...

...seriously... it's just one word from David... the camper featured in the June 13 entry of dumb pe0ple. David isn't really dumb. He actually has a blog himself.

success!

I made a 7/6 on my Western Civ quiz last week! YAY! But, I have one tomorrow... that I have NO motivation to study for. Sad face. It's late, and today was my day off. Technically, I'm off until around 2 tomorrow, but there is that whole class mess that I have to take care of at 8 am.

Anyway, I tried to Audioblog today... hrmm... let's just say that technology sucks. It was a pretty decent post... I was complaining about how my barber, Maurice, shaved my beard off. I'm still a little upset, but everyone likes the goatee. I know the goatee looks good. I just wanted to grow out the beard... It took SO long to do, and it was finally really full. Eric Stukes commented on it yesterday as a matter of fact. Now it's gone and all that is left is the little goatee that I sported all last semester. Don't worry, I'm still hot. LOL.

Also, I have been going to the gym a lot lately... Katie and I go everyday at 2:30 and do the elliptical while watching Fresh Prince of Bel Aire. It's really fun. I LOVE Kate... really I do. But, she is so hard core sometimes... it's good to go with Katie 'cause she is just as laid back as me. Kate is a friggin' drill sargeant (LOVE YOU, GRACE)! So today we went with Nichole... that was really fun... I had my headphones on listening to "DJ Hambone's Hypermix" and Katie could hear my music through my headphones, so we sang together. It really helped pass the time on there (going backwards hurts SO much).

Anyway, I think I'm gonna go study a little more and then hit the sack... only 8 more days of class!!! 61 days to 21!

::drool::

That is how I feel. I feel as if I am just figuratively drooling. I mean, I am tired but awake, pissed but content, busy but bored... I'm just weird right now. I was tired pretty much ALL day today. I woke up this morning just about as tired as I have been this summer... even more tired than when I had to wake up super early to drive here to Clemson for class. I ended up taking TWO naps today... I mean... dang. As soon as I had a free minute, I got in the bed. At one point today, I even got cranky with the other counselors and after yelling at them for not doing anything productive, I stormed out of the room and went straight to bed. I'm tellin' you, I was cranky today. It's 10 to midnight now and I have 8 guys in here watching The Matrix: Reloaded. I am really glad that they wanna hang out in here (I am having a REALLY good time this week... these kids are AWESOME), but it is sleepy time.

Anyway, pissed but content... I am pissed because I have class in the morning... I am pissed because I can't park on campus... I am pissed because I am so tired all the time... I am pissed because I'm sick of hearing about engagement plans from dumb pe0ple... but at the same time, I'm happy that it is summer time and that I am here at summer camp with a great group of campers and counselors/new friends, and that I will be 21 in 63 days, and that I can take 2 naps a day. That is all good stuff.

I'm busy but bored (this entry sounds like that Alanis Morrissette song "Hand in My Pocket"). I am always doing something with the kids or TRYING to do something for class... but then again, I don't get enough sleep, I don't get a chance to read Harry Potter, I barely get enough time to blog, and yet I still don't seem to find ENOUGH time for Western Civ (I'm not REALLY upset about that last one). So, I am busy... but then again, I'm not.

I dunno... Summertime is weird. Especially this summer. It's my last summer as an undergraduate... I'm working AND taking classes. I need a break from this "break."

mean girls

Well, I just got back from the Astro with the campers. We went to see Mean Girls. I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of high school a lot... the girls that were too cool for school. The girls that were in that "sorority." It was Alpha Theta something... had the girls like Carly, Audrey, Heidi, Marisa, Ashton... that crowd (and yeah, I can call them out by name 'cause I'll prolly never see them again in my life, and if I do, it wouldn't be a big deal). High school was really fake... I am glad that in college, pretty much everyone is a "mean girl." Haha. Seriously. There aren't super huge exclusive cliques... unless you call Greek organizations cliques. My experience has been that fraternity guys, sorority girls, FCAers, band people, athletes, choral people, honors people... we all can be pretty clicky and pretty mean. I guess it's just the nature of the beast... While the Mean Girls were mean in high school, it took a little more time for some of us to grow into our meanness.

Why as a matter of fact, one of my own FRATERNITY BROTHERS ignored me today... and I haven't said ANYTHING bad about this person at all... I dunno why they did it... I mean, I HONESTLY don't think that I have ever done anything to piss this person off... I hardly EVER see this person, so naturally, I yelled hey across the street to this person and they looked and then turned away... I called several times... and looked like a dummy in front of a lot of campers. It's all good though... like I said, sometimes we are all mean girls.

week 2

So, this is the second week of camp. My new campers came today. I was a little apprehensive... my group last week was a buncha angels. I couldn't have asked for a more well behaved group. The only thing that could have been different with "Jon Jon," Thomas, "Ezekiel," Zak, and Daniel was they could have talked a little more and "Jon Jon" could have not been so cynical. They were a good group though. The other reason that I was a little apprehensive is actually VERY shallow... I couldn't pronounce 2 names... Yeah. I told one of my friends that I felt like the common Wall Street CEO... I couldn't pronounce names, so I expected the people to be ghetto. Well, I was VERY wrong. Akeem, Dominique, Kiwann, and Matt are AWESOME. They are a close second to last week's group (They are actually better than last week because they interact with one another and with me, but last week will always be the best 'cause they were my first). They are in my room now playing Kiwann's Playstation 2 and listening to my music... "Jon Jon" hated all of my music last week...

Anyway, it seems like as a whole, the kids here this week are awesome. There are only 60 as opposed to the 120 from last week. At the ice cream social tonight, they were all outside talking and carrying on like college students... pretty mature. They weren't running around with sticks or whoring themselves out like Queen Bee. On top of that, we split the group up into 4 separate groups. The 3 Muskateers, Butterfingers, Snickers, and Kit Kats. It's in hopes to enhance the camping experience... kinda like the groups we had at Camp Long last year (Go B. Bills!). I think a couple of the counselors were opposed to the idea. It kinda frustrated me, but I have seen how much fun competition can make camp, so I stuck by it. I do think, however, that the whole "sorting ceremony" was a little much. Very Harry Potter-esque (We went and saw The Prisoner of Azkaban last night and it seems as if everything has been insipred by Harry Potter for the past 72 hours).

Anyway, I am looking forward to a good week... tomorrow and Tuesday, Dr. Burns is gone in Western Civ and we are watching Gladiator, so that takes care of half of the week in there and leaves only a week and a half of that left.

AND... I SAW THE P&A HOTTIE AGAIN IN P&A ON FRIDAY! HOTT LIKE FIYA!

clemson

I love Clemson... I do. I really strongly dislike all the hills sometimes, but as for the school as a whole, I like it. I also really HATE the police department and parking services... I have very good reason not to like them, but I don't feel like going into it tonight. Notice that I said I dislike the hills but HATE the police department and parking services.

Anyway, today, I walked all over this creation known as Clemson University... or at least it felt like it. First, I had to go to P&A. I have only been in there like 3 times... and I knew that it was a complicated building... I got lost trying to find the kids. But, I got to ask this absolutely drop dead gorgeous take me home right now hottie for directions... oh yes... Anyway, later this afternoon, I had to walk around Clemson with my campers and Wilene's. We walked around trying to find people to answer the questions for our scavenger hunt. It really kinda saddened me to find out how many people didn't know where the Thomas Green Clemson statue was or what the name of Howard's Rock was. I was also a a little freaked when the kids tried to get me to read the plaque. As the rumor goes, students who read the plaque don't graduate. Believe it or not, the block is scaring me to the point where I feel like it may be possible that I don't graduate... I dunno... I'm probably just overreacting, but I love this school and campus... even to the point that I will subscribe to the superstitions around it.

Then during the pizza party, I was talking with Megan... a girl who was in my PE class that is a desk assistant this summer. She lived at University Ridge when it burned down. She was telling me all about what she had to go through after the fire and all that sort of thing... about how she had to make an inventory of everything she lost, but how she got hooked up by so many people who were willing to help her and the other residents of the Ridge out. That just went to show how great Clemson is. It's really a family here... being here this summer and getting to experience it in a way that I never have before has really been fun...

...they always say that you don't miss something until it's gone. Well, I'm not gone yet... but I miss it already.

hoke smith hill, iii personifies the word BROTHER

So... Kyle had ANOTHER run in with the cops. Yes. That is the absolutely embarrassing thing that I didn't want to talk about. It wasn't embarrassing though, until I told Kate and she said, "Hamilton, it's your first day back." Yeah. I was a dumb pers0n. Anyway, it turns out that NOW, even after all the hard work I went through to be able to keep parking on campus, I am suspended from parking on campus. But not to worry, because Hoke was there to help.

**BUT... Let me point out that his lovely girlfriend, and my wonderful little brother #1 was DEFINITELY there for me when I needed a dollar and a laugh and the police department needed a quick and painful smakcdown.**

Anyway, Hoke came through for me in flying colors. He made a few calls and made it possible for me to park at the Lutheran Church downtown since I can't park on campus. It isn't far at all. PLUS, when I had no where to park it and was about to be utterly stressed out, he let me park Kyle at his house. Stuff like this makes Hoke the ultimate brother... not to mention being a HUGE help during these first few days of camp. As a veteran counselor, he has been a tremendous help.

So, I just wanted to publicly say that. Hoke, you rock. AEA.

1st day of camp

Well, the campers are here... and running the f around Dookieblue. I dunno what they are doing... they are grown. LOL. It's weird, 'cause this is the first time I have had campers this age, so I don't have as many responsibilities as I did at Camp Cooper and Camp Long. This camp is WAAAAAAAY different from them. I miss those camps A LOT. I didn't realize how much I would miss the "bad" kids and the woods and nasty cabins... but I do. This is almost like paradise. One noticeable difference is the kids here... they PAY to come to camp, and a lot of them were forced to come... I doubt they will enjoy it as much as the kids enjoyed 4H camp.

I only have 5 campers. Johnathan, Thomas, Zak, Phillip, and Daniel. They are a good group. I am supposed to have 8, but only 5 showed up. I kinda feel bad for the 3 without roommates... I remember how bad camp was at Wofford that year that I didn't have a roommate. My door is open and my music on... so I hope they come in and want to hang out.

My room is hella tight. I mean, I know that for a guy, I have a lot of taste and I'm really neat, so I guess it's a given. But I love my room. I kinda like it more than 3A7... it's not as big and as Patrick said, "It's more intimate." And I have a microwave (shhhh)!

I guess there isn't much more to write about... we have a meeting at 10 with the whole building because some buttmunch rolled the floors. I doubt it was any of my guys. They are so quiet!!! GOSH, I HATE IT! But these other punks... I have decided... they are worse than my bebe kids from last summer... It kinda put things into perspective. I never realized how grateful they were for that time they spent at camp last summer... Christy, a counselor here that just graduated with her Elementary Ed degree was telling me about how much she enjoyed being at a Title 1 school. I always get put in schools and situations with Title 1 kids, so I really wanted to be in a more upscale school for my student teaching... and I was looking forward to working with kids that weren't wards of the state... but just from one day, I can tell the difference. LOL.

I'm not complaining though... I don't mean to. I am enjoying it.

Here is a little thing that Bryce just IMed me... I thought it was funny. It's about these kids... just to put into perspective the whole economic difference between these kids and my 4Hers...

dookieblue

It has been a long f-in' time! Goodness! Well, I am back here in Clemson now... finally. I get a little bit of a break, so I can write. Lord knows I really need to. There's been lots on my mind, but I can't remember it all... that's why I think next year I'm going to carry around a little notepad and jot things down to write about.

Anyway, I moved back into Mauldin yesterday... only it's not Mauldin anymore... I am calling it Dookieblue. They painted the walls on the inside and stuff... I am serious when I say "Dookieblue." As far as I know, there is not much rhyme or reason to why these walls are like this at all. One side of the hall is blue, the other side is brown... like dookie brown. I'm not talkin' about burnt sienna or chocolate or mocha... I mean DOOKIE. It looks horrendous. I am seriously likin' the blue, you know... but who on earth told them that if you put dookie brown with it, it would look good? Dumb pe0ple.

Anyway, I went and took my Western Civ mid-term this morning. For the first time, I feel like I did something in Western Civ WELL. I mean, I feel like I truly did an A test. I spilled my guts... let it all out... it was very ironc seeing how I didn't sleep well last night, only slept for about 4 hours at that, and only studied for about an hour and a half... AND there was drama last night. I can't talk about it though... it's just one of thos things that I am a little TOO embarrassed about. But don't worry... it'll get out... it always does. It inspired my first story for The Tiger nest year.

Well, it's Friday morning at 9:14... what am I to do. I'm not ready to do Tree #3 yet... so, I guess I'll wait. Hopefully though, I won't neglect my dear blogs anymore now that I'm back in Dookieblue.

sadness, shopping, and sex and the city

sadness

I am sad because lately, I have been neglecting ALL of my blogs. I REALLY can't do this. I have standards to uphold. As I said last week, "my blog is great... but that's 'cause it is pretty much the best blog of all of MY friends (yes... I am THAT conceited)." I can't say stuff like that and then let my blog go to Hell. Sad face. I think it's a mixture of class starting and the excitement that happened this weekend. I will really try to do better... but I don't know how much better I can do, seeing how I will be moving later this week. But I guess the fact that there are no new dumb people to report on is a good thing...

shopping

Missy, Erin, and I went shopping at the Prime Outlet in Gaffney. It was fun. The stores weren't that good, but it was just good to be in each other's company. The best quote of the excurion was, "I refuse to wear someone else's name across my chest in size 40 font!" Missy said that in reference to Tommy Hilfiger. I didn't buy anything from there. I did spend $27 at the Gap though (LOVE that place)... and I got 5 items for THAT much money. One of them is the pink shirt that I am so studly donning today.

sex and the city

Since the stores in Gaffney were kinda tragic, we ended up going to Erin's and hanging out. We watched a few episodes of Sex and the City... it was fun. After watching it all on TV, we started talking about sex in general. I won't go into detail... LOL. It was fun though. It really made me ready to get out of Greenville and back to Clemson... with ALL of my friends, not just for the summer. However, I am very ready to move back to Clemson... just 3 more days!

i hate summer school

So today, I had my first quiz in Western Civ. Yes. And yesterday was my first day of class (emphasis on "MY" first day). Clas started on Tuesday. I, however, did not decide to go until yesterday. Read about that mess here. So anyway, the first quiz... it sucked. I mean, it wasn't bad. But I definitely didn't ace it. I HATE Western Civ. I am a big dumb loser senior taking it right now, 'cause I took the 173 class my freshman year, made a C, and got scared. So now, I am sweating it out with about 20 other people at 8 am every morning. The class itself isn't too bad. I know 3 people in the class... and it's a really small class, so that is good. I think I will be more happy about class come Thursday... when I actually move back to Clemson. Right now I have to drive back and forth daily. Poor Kyle... I know he is just hurting... but ol' King Congruence here is hurting having to pay $2 a gallon to keep gas in him. Ugh.

Anyway, I don't like summer school right now. Clemson just seems like a VERY sad place. There is no one there. I saw all of 3 people when walking to class this morning. I did see more after my class got out at 9:30, but there still aren't a lot of people. As beautiful as the campus is, the Clemson family makes Clemson what it is too. It's nice to walk to class by the fountain and it be all peaceful and stuff, but it would be nice to look up from the fountain and see a ton of people walking on the bridge.

I know when I get back things aren't gonna be too much different, but I will have campers... I am SO excited. There will be more people at Clemson and I will be doing something fun with kids younger than me. I am really pumped about this because I have never really worked with high schoolers (except for at Seneca High), I will be working with some really cool people (Hoke, Bryce, little bro #2 and Tripp), and it's SUMMER CAMP... which I love insanely. I am having severe 4H camp withdrawl. I can't believe it. I just worked there for 2 summers, and it feels like it was something that was INGRAINED into my life... like, "School is out, so it's time to go to Camp Bob Cooper." Not this year. But, I SERIOUSLY do miss it. Being at Camp Cooper and Camp Long just put me at ease, believe it or not. Even with the bad kids, I was barely ever stressed out. Everything was just so much fun. I REALLY hope that this camp at Clemson will be just as enjoyable for me... but as my motto for camp last year was, "Less of me..." camp is for the KIDS.

(please don't let this sweet and uplifting final paragraph take away from the title of the entry... I DO hate summer school.

and again i say...

...get me the fuck out of this house.

I just got back from picking up my brother and his girlfriend from school. I am not a damn taxi?! Who the hell do they think I am? Oh, and it gets worse... I can't leave the house or anything 'cause I have to watch them and make sure they aren't "alone." My brother is a fucking saint. I am POSITIVE that he doesn't know what to do with what he's got in his pants. But it's not like that matters anyway... I have nothing to do anyway. Thankfully, tomorrow will be only 1 week until going back to Clemson AND I will be going out downtown with a bunch of friends from high school. Erin told me that she might be able to go out to dinner on Friday, and then on Saturday, she, Muff and I are going shopping in Gaffney. So once I get through today, things shouldn't be too terrible.

But, there is another "honey-do" thing that has been asked of me. My aunt asked me if I'd be able to go pick my cousin, Bradford, up from Greenville Middle. Well, my mom told me not to leave Donovan and Amanda at home alone. So, if I have to go get Bradford (who is 20 minutes away), then I will have to take them WITH me. UGH! And gas is fucking expensive! The closest gas station to my house had gas for $1.84 the last I checked... and I don't get reimbursed for my gas... THAT sucks like a Hoover.

Anyway, some exciting news... I was watching Russian Roulette this afternoon on GSN (like I always do), and there was a girl named Hannah on there from Spartanburg, SC... just about 30 minutes away (Sparkle City represent)! That was exciting... but one girl had the AUDACITY to give her a question about education because "Hannah's from the south and education is lacking in the south." Ooh... So Cal scum... But, Mark L. Walberg (love the man) stood up and said, "I'm from South Carolina!" EXCITING!
Mark L. Walberg is from SC! w00t w00t! I think he's my favorite gameshow host... it's between him and Kennedy on Friend of Foe. It would be Anne Robinson from The Weakest Link, but she is just a bitch sometimes. I think before I go back to Clemson next week, I am going to make a "Best of GSN" list. I mean, after 3 weeks of NOTHING but GSN, I think I am a pretty qualified source to determine the best of what the channel has to offer...

Well, back to babysitting the lovebirds and watching The Weakest Link: The LA Law Episode. I am sure that these individuals won't be as dumb as the models that were on there yesterday... they have to play lawyers and attorneys and stuff...

matt williams

Okay y'all... I am SO bored. SO bored in fact, that I have started to ponder what life will be like in the fall... Balancing school, band, the great social life of a 21 year old that lives off campus with his best friends, writing for The Tiger... and then I started getting nervous about just that... writing for The Tiger. I have done that which I absolutely hate doing. I have apparently set a precendence for myself. I have made people belive that I am a great and hysterical writer, and while my opinions may not be kosher or family friendly, they are funny. Dammit. I HATE doing this. It will leave me no room to mess up or make mistakes, or write anything bad.

My dear Guiding Spirit, Anna Manning told me the other day how excited she was about me making The Tiger staff. I was of course flattered when she told me how great I'd be. Then she started talking about how EVERYONE reads my blog and it's SO great, and because of it I know SO many people. Well, thanks Anna (love you... mean it), I don't want all of my merit to stand on this little blog thing... although one day I would love for my memoirs to be made into a Lifetime movie. But as for now... in college... This is just a hobby... and I would hate for everyone to think that I am some sort of opinionistic primadonna. THAT title goes to Matt Williams.

I have talked about him before... but I don't think I gave him all the props he deserves. The man is hysterical... His little catch phrases will either make you smile, or all out "laugh out loud." I heard from someone that he graduated a few weeks ago. But I was reading one of his last articles from The Tiger this year, and it said, something about being a junior and "we have to graduate soon." I think it would be AWESOME to work alongside him... but there is only one drawback. He's so awesome! How am I ever going to extablish myself as a good writer if my column is next to HIS (and I mean that with the UTMOST respect towards him)? I mean, sure, my blog is great... but that's 'cause it is pretty much the best blog of all of MY friends (yes... I am THAT conceited). I write daily if not several times a day, I'm truthful, blunt, self criticizing, and most importantly, critical of other people (hehe). But when there are two equally blunt, truthful, self criticizing, and peer criticizing individuals writing side by side, one is gonna obviously be better... and that one is gonna be the person that criticizes the other, while the other wastes away with nothing to write about but how much a of a loser he thinks he is (see, I'm already doing it... Thanks, Matt Williams).

At any rate, I really respect Matt Williams and if he will still be on staff next year, that will be great. If not, then I'll be the HNIC. HAHA!

Boredom has brought forth the beginning of a 3rd blog (if you haven't figured out the second one right now, then you will more than likely be written about in blog #3). Yes, it's called "Dumb People" (with a zero in place for the O... the actual dumbpeople.blogspot.com was taken by a dude who wrote all of 2 entries back in August of 2003... I'll probably end up writing about him in the blog). With this, I officially retired that Xanga too. It was just getting old. And Blogspot is way more hella tight.

Now I'm talkin' with a fellow blogger named Erik (check out his blog here). It's a good one...

Okay, I'm out... and don't be worried, I'm not gonna abandon King Congruence for Dumb People... I really only intend on writing about dummies in there and I plan on continuing to bore you with the day to day hum drum of my existence in G-vegas in here.

1 awful song and 65 fathers

Hey... So, I just got back from church. Not an absolutely exciting Sunday, but a Sunday nontheless. The first thing I have to say is that I realized today that I simply CANNOT stand when something is out of key. It makes me squirm in my seat and want to scream so I can block it out... I mean, it's like the most God awful sound in the world, but if I am not responsible for the sound, then there is nothing I can do about it. Well, I experienced this today at church. I can't think of the song that they were singing, but it's really not important. Well, we got this new Minister of Music last August... I haven't been at church most of the time that she's been there... like, I was sitting there today and realized that she has almost been there for a year, but yet I still pray for her constantly as if she is having to adjust to our church... I know it's gotta be bad. I know that people have quit the choir because our old director isn't there anymore, and I know people talk, and look, and all that other stuff that the good Christian folk just ain't supposed to do. Well, bless her heart, Mrs. Moon (which everyone calls her... which annoys me because no one has taken it upon themselves to get to know her on a first name basis... I myself am guilty) is an exceptional player. I mean, I think anyone who can play by ear AND read music is great... especially on an organ. She is doing a phenomenal job and this was proved when I heard the choir today... while lacking about half to 2/3 of what is normally there, they broke it down. I was so impressed. Anyway, about the awful song... it was devotion. Deacon Willie started singing some song and she got on to play it... Well, he and Ms. Becky started doin' something crazy... like, changing pitches and stuff... I mean, like, people in the congregation were scratchin' their heads and stuff... it was ridiculous. Mrs. Moon had to tap out a chromatic several times in order to find the pitch, and as soon as she did, Deacon Willie and Ms. Becky would jump to another pitch at a different phrase. It was terrible. I just sat there with the most unpleasant look on my face (which is a BIG no no if you are a member of the preacher's family... everything is supposed to be marshmallows and sunshine if your daddy is the pastor). My mom was looking over at me all confused... she told me just yesterday that I look like I'm grimacing all throughout church all the time... so today, I was TRYING to be happy... but the song just wouldn't let me... NOT a joyful noise... but a noise, regardless...

Then there were the 65 fathers... go ahead and take a guess as to what this is that I am talking about... go ahead, I'll wait...

*ELEVATOR MUSIC*

Okay... now I want some of y'all to comment on what you thought it was now, just so I can see what comes to mind when I say 65 fathers. Well, in all reality, 65 fathers is what was said in Minister Freeman's 4 minute prayer. Yes, I'm a heretic... I was doing something other than praying during the prayer. See, this man... God bless him... He's a funny man. And, when he got up to pray, I was like, "Hmm, what is his trademark prayer?" Most people have a trademark about their prayers... Like there is this one guy that will go "Father God" throughout the entire prayer... Rev. Blandin says "Heavenly Father" all the time... Rev. Sis. Griffin has this whole spill that she says at the beginning of every prayer: "All wise... Everlasting... Everlasting God our Heavenly Father..." Yeah, everyone has a trademark. I think mine is like, "Dear God." Anyway, Minister Freeman always goes "Father." And I mean ALL THROUGHOUT HIS PRAYERS! I sat there today and counted... in his 4 minute prayer, he said the word "father" 65 times. That is more than 15 "fathers" in one minute. Wow. Well, I am sure that God heard that... I mean, Minister Freeman called Him enough... Bless his heart.

Ah, church... It's amazing the things you learn from sitting through one service. I think I've said it before... but I can't remember if I hae or haven't... it reminds me A LOT of chapter. Only when people call on God in chapter, they usually tack on another word after it starting with a D...

bad parenting...

...there's nothing else to call it folks.

I'm gonna say this and then be done. I'm mad. Okay, when I was in high school, my curfew was 10:30... STRAIGHT up until college... It was so strict that my friends came over to my house at 10:30 from wherever we were and we played hide-and-go-seek, sardines, and tag and stuff outside of my house... it sucked royally. Well, it's 11:49 and my 15 year old 10th grade brother is JUST getting into the house. WHAT THE FUCK (yes, I said "what the fuck," not "WTF")??? And that isn't the only thing... not only is he just coming into the house now... but on his progress report, he had TWO Fs! NO SIR! How can he go out, much less stay out 'til midnight, when he is 15 and has 2 Fs? All I can say is, I am the smarter kid... I go to Clemson. My brother is making Fs. If he gets into Clemson, it will be because he can check that box that says "Relatives Attended Clemson." He's a loser... but I'm a loser for having had to come in at 10:30 until college. Oh, by the way... I'll be 21 in 2 months and 28 days... and my curfew now is 12.

Get me the fuck out of this house.

"this city's made us crazy and we must get out"

-Maroon 5

Yes. Greenville is driving me mucking fad! OMG. I just don't think I can take it anymore. I'm sick of my house, I'm sick of my neighborhohod (which has become so tragic that TWO houses have window AC units in the FRONT of them), I'm sick of the Eastside, I'm SICK OF GREENVILLE! Today was almost the breaking point. The only thing that kept me sane was realizing that today marks 2 weeks left here in this wretched rut of life.

I am VERY ready to just plain old move out. I'm ready to be on my own... my mom made me go pull weeds outside in the yard today... 20 year olds (w/ 3 months until their 21st birthday) don't do stuff like that! And I'm gonna live in a townhouse once I get my own place so I have no yard. I mean, that was just annoying. I just don't like being around here anymore. I'm about to be 21... and I know PLENTY of 21 year olds that are out on their own. I mean, once I graduate, I want to have my own place. I want to be able to come back to this house and just be a visitor. Even today on Who Wants to be a Millionaire (on GSN... that's all I do all day long), Regis asked this guy how old his kids were. The guy said 21, 23, 24, and 26. Regis asked if any of them lived at home, and the guy said no... see, even the 21 year old is gone... ugh.

Anyway, I did do something semi-fun today. Mandy and Sarah from high school called and asked if I wanted to hang out with them tonight. So I did. We jut cruised around downtown... it was... okay... I just felt really tragic. This is what my life has become. GSN and cruising downtown Greenville. Whoop-de-friggin'-do.

Anyway, since nothing exciting is going on my life, I doubt if I'll write in here very frequently... it's more fun to keep up with Tree #3 (which Sarah Vestal has told me she doesn't want me to allude to anymore since she has figured it out). So, I won't. And with this, I think I am also retiring the Xanga. It wasn't fun... it seems to be a cess pool for drama anyway.

dm tryouts

Well, today would have to have been the most eventful day since I have been home from Clemson. I went to Broome High School in Spartanburg and judged colorguard and drum major tryouts. I had an absolute blast. It was so cool to be able to go and help pick out next year's leadership at Broome. While I do believe I saw more flag twirling than I ever wanted to see in my life, it was fun. The best part was definitely drum major tryouts. It was so hard because there were 5 very eligible candidates. In the end, we chose a very good drum major. Cory and I both agreed on the same candidate.

Watching them and being at a high school really put things into perspective for me. It has motivated me to be the best I can possibly be this my last year in band. It has encouraged me to just let loose and have fun with the job. So many times I get uptight and a little subduded thinking that something is gonna go wrong or the band is gonna talk bad about me... but this is gonna be my last year. I am not a drum major for anyone else but me... and while I do have a responsibility to serve the band, I do it because I enjoy it. I am going to do the best job possible this season and have the most fun possible as well. I am SO ready.

Once I got back from Spartanburg, I came home and no one was here. It was like 6:30 and I was so bored and lonely. Well, I plopped onto the floor here in the study and started talking online (yes, the internet works all the time on my computer... convenient, however uncomfortable). One of my block 3 divas, Ellen, had left me a message saying she misse me. It was sweet. Well, I responded and we started talking about life since we had been home. She started talking about how she has hung out with people from high school and has been having a good time. Well, I told her that I don't really hang out with anyone from high school... I've either grown apart from them, don't know where they are, or they have pretty much not done anything with their lives. It really made me think... In high school, it was always Megan, Rachel, Amanda, the Matts, Andy, Brian, and I... Well, even as much as I see 2 of the Matts and Andy, we aren't incredibly close anymore... I pretty much attribute it to conflict of interest. As for the other Matt, I am actually talking to him right now. He seems to be the most grown up out of all of us. We talk every blue moon, but when we do, we talk more in dept than when I talk to one of the other guys. As for the girls, I saw Megan on campus like twice a semester... I actually saw her about a week or 2 before I left. She said to call her sometime this summer... but I hadn't talked toi Amanda or Rachel in probably about a year or so. So I called their house today. Surprisingly, I dialed the number without having to look it up. It's amazing how I haven't used it in so long but I still knew it so well...

**INTERRUPTION: So, I'm watching TV, and I just HAVE to comment on this cute little black boy in this Oscar Meyer weiner commercial... you have GOT to see it. He is so funny!**

Okay. Anyway, I talked to Rachel. She is good. It was SOOOO good to talk to her. AS soon as I heard her voice this huge smile came across my face. We exchanged cell numbers and are planning to hang out soon. Then I called Megan (once again having remembered her number), but she was at work. I'll get in touch with her soon. It was good to try to establish contact with these people.

And, tonight, I finally finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire... I started it last summer... lol. I think I'm gonna go by the 5th book tomorrow... this book was actually kinda scary at the end! It was so good though! I can't believe how much I have been reading lately... I think of it as inspiration for Tree #3 though... it's doing quite delightful, by the way...

how much i f-ing hate the lack of technology in my house

Greetings... from the floor of my dad's study in my house. Normally, I would be addressing you from about 12 feet back and to the right of me at his desk (without the fabulous sounds of The Emperor's New Groove), but tonight I am on MY computer in the middle of the floor. Let me explain to you how ridiculously dumb this house and its internet connection is...

First of all, my parents went and decided to get a new computer while I was at school this year. Yay for them. With the new computer, they called themselves getting technologically savvy by getting Charter High-Speed Cable. I just want to say, "fuck you, Charter and I hope you burn in Hell." Have y'all seen the cell phone commercial where people are talking on their cell phones and all of a sudden their phones fly out of their hands... it is a simulation of calls getting "dropped." I want to say that it is for Alltel which I find ironic, 'cause that service is less than adequate too. Anyway, this commercial pretty much describes internet service with Charter. I'll be on the computer and all of a sudden, "do ding: INTERNET SERVICE INTERRUPTED." This happened VERY frequently. Ugh. It was so annoying. I thought that was gonna be done with last week when the Charter guy came to assess the problem. This dude looked like someone who went to a school like Eastside, HAD been cool, but never did a damn thing with his life so he was diminished to servicing people's cable. He didn't do a fucking thing to our cable except mess it up even more. The internet kept shutting off and to make matters worse, the cable in my room started acting up.

So, tonight all that rubbish ended... and even more horrific things started. My wonderful teenage brother, the illustrious drum major of the oh so exquisite Eastside High School Marching Band, tells me at dinner that the internet is messing up and if I know what is wrong with it. I said that during the day I saw some weird windows that I couldn't understand, but for the most part things seemed to be working fine. Well, after dinner, he hops back on the computer and I go to my room to read some Harry Potter. Later, I come here into the study (in the EXACT spot that I am lying on the floor right now, ironically) watching The Swan, and Donovan goes, "The internet doesn't work anymore." I just ignored him pretty much. I knew that the internet liked to shut off, so I didn't think much of it. Until I got on the computer and noticed that EVERYTHING on the computer had been wiped out. ALL of our personal settings, had been removed and it was like the computer lost everything that was on it pretty much... well, I come to find out that it did. Nothing is on that computer anymore... and no, the internet SERIOUSLY doesn't work.

This frustrated me to no end... for a few reasons.

1. What do you do without internet?
2. I needed to get directions to Broome High School for tomorrow that were e-mailed to me.
3. I was MOST DEFINITELY going to have to blog about the situation.
4. I really needed to take care of Tree #3.

So, I decided to do what I did last summer when I was at home and we were having computer problems. I took the modem from the study into my room and hooked it up to my computer... but alas! Since my cable was screwed up by graduate number 250 of 250 from the EHS class of 2000, it didn't work...

SO... THAT is what brings me to the floor of the study typing away lying on my stomach getting severe rug burns on my elbows.

I hate being at home. I'm ready to go back to Clemson... if only for a little bit of convenient internet access.

ocd

First of all, I have to say 3 things.

1. I LOVE Blogger's new look... FABULOUS! LOL.
2. I took it upon myself to give the old blog a fresh new look. I like it... I know you do too.
3. Tell y'all's mamas I said "Happy Mother's Day!"

Okay. Anyway, the title for tonight's entry is OCD. There are 3 people in my family that are ridiculously OCD that I have to discuss tonight.

First of all, it's me. I have gotten so OCD with "Tree #3" (see previous entry) that I have gotten slack in updating my blog. PLEASE do not let this fool you. I am still utterly and completely tragic and have not done anything exciting with myself yet this summer (unless you count the "planting and maintaining of tree #3). In all seriousness, Tree #3 is not a big deal at all. I just like the little bit of mystery and anonymity that plays into it's maintenance. But seriously... if people would take the time to pry around my AIM profile they would understand what Tree #3 is... And hopefully they would figure out that there is no such thing as Buckhead State University (hint, hint).

Secondly, it's my mom. She is ridiculous. Well, you know how the new style is to wear silk flowers with outfits? Don't worry guys, it's a girl thing, you didn't miss the memo. Anyway, my mom has gotten really resourceful and has decided to make her own little silk flowers... TO WEAR WITH EVERY SINGLE OUTFIT. I SWEAR on every outfit in her closet, that she has a flower to go with it. Today, we went to A.C. Moore and Garden Ridge to attend to this new fetish of hers. Also this weekend, she had me put black dots all over this white flower in attempts to make a polka dotted rose. I have never seen one of those, nor have I ever been asked to do something so ridiculous, but the flower turned out kinda neat looking. She crazy.

Thirdly, and most severe, is my brother, Donovan. I wanted to run him over with Kyle today. OMG. Well, he is in the same high school band that I was in for 4 years. When I was there, we were pretty bad. One year, we got a "Performance" award at Upper State, which is worse than a "Quality" and is basically like, "Thanks for coming, but we'd appreciate it more if you DIDN'T come." Yeah, so we sucked. But, whatever that band is now has to do with me and the effort that I put into it for 4 years. All Donovan likes to do is talk trash about how great they are and how much better they are without me and the people who were in it when I was there. He says that we were so terrible and they are pretty much the cat's meow now. Yeah, they are better, but they are FAR from being state material. So, he came at me today saying, "Did you guys ever get invited to play at graduation?" And I said, "No, I was in Concert Choir and we sang at every graduation." Then he said, "Well, I don't care about Concert Choir. Concert Choir is gay. I'm talking about band." At this, I let him have it. I told him I was sick of all his "EHS band is so awesome" bull shit and that the band at EHS had nothing on Tiger Band and that no school that he could possibly go to for college could ever have anything on Tiger Band either. We sound good, we have fun, we get work done, we get treated like gods by the athletic department, we have great fans, we travel, and we entertain our audiences. Donovan will more than likely go to some school in state. The only school with a band that could even compete in the state with us is USC. But, I don't know if Donovan is gonna make it into that school. He is making less than acceptable grades, and I see him going to some easy-to-get-into private school before he ever made it into one of the good schools in the state. So, I told him to enjoy his time in band at EHS, 'cause it's probably gonna be the best band experience he ever has. You can call it harsh if you want, but he's 15 and he needs to learn how to take the heat if he's gonna play in the kitchen.

There, i'm done... Now to go feed my addiction to Tree #3.

not done yet...

So the incomplete journal entry about Donovan and my little argument was not enough blogging for the king for one night. I've got crap on my mind... but I don't know how to say it. Well... pretty much, I keep this journal 'cause I LOVE to write. I get lost in writing. Heck, I could write about someone's made up life and have fun doing it (haha). But, the only problem with writing is that this stuff is loved by so many... It's hard to keep my own little secrets. I want to write them down and get them out of the mess that is my mind, but I don't want you nosy people knowing EVERYTHING that goes on in my head. So, I tend to have a little bit of a problem with this. Now, don't go thinking that I'm hiding some big JUICY secret from you... 'cause y'all know that I live for a little bit of gossip... but Missy does more (haha again). I just have (hold on, lemme count...) 3 other things on my mind right now, that either shouldn't be discussed yet because it's too premature, shouldn't be discussed at all because I deserve a little secrecy, or because it's just fun to hide it from people... LOL. HAHA! So, I think I'll talk about them in disguise...

1. I found a tree the other day. At first, I was skeptical about this tree, 'cause it didn't look easy to climb. In fact, it's a friggin' Redwood tree. I just looked at it from a distance for most of the time... kicking around fallen leaves and dirt that lay at the base of the tree. After walkin' around this tree a lot today, I finally decided to climb it. I climbed for a long time, y'all... I mean, my mom even called from the bottom of the tree and told me to come down. But I didn't. Hehe. I had a good time. I kinda wanted to climb the tree later this evening, but I ran into some friends... and by the time we got done hanging out, it was too dark to climb the tree. But who knows... I might get up the nerve to sneak out of the house tonight and climb that Redwood tree again.

2. This tree... I found it in this forest. I've been walkin' around the forest ever since I got done babysitting. It passes the time. I don't get lost, but I don't ever seem to find my way out either... lots of trees... most of them are too tall to climb. Some of them are just too old and I'm scared that they are gonna break if I even try to climb them. Then there are others that are too pretty to even touch. They are just for looking.

3. I planted a tree of my own! Haha! It's great. No one knows anything about my little tree too. I planted it in a forest in Atlanta though... yeah! I bet you didn't even know they had forests in Atlanta! Well, they do! I'm enjoying watching my little tree grow too. I hope it grows big and tall and one day all of you will eventually find it and want to climb all the way up it! But, you'll have to pay money first... you can't just go to my tree and hop on... My tree is special... how come you think you don't know WHERE in Atlanta my tree is? It's 'cause I planted it somewhere where only I would be able to realize that it's mine. To you, it's just an ordinary tree... Haha...

I love keeping secrets from you all... Hey... you know what. This is why people think that those far out spacy movies like "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Lord of the Rings" have hidden meanings. It's cause Frank Baum and J.R.R. Tolkien had secrets they didn't want to get out, so they encrypted them in goofy little tales like those. Well, here is my little tale...

fighting with my 15 year old brother

Don't worry... no blood was drawn or anything like that. My brother, Donovan, and I usually get along really well. We are both HUGE band geeks and both drum majors. If anything, this has really brought us together. When I was in high school, he wasn't even a teenager yet, so we didn't see eye to eye on most things. We still don't, but we do see eye to eye on more.

Anyway, the reason we had to have the "discussion" that we had is because both our parents are going out of town this weekend. On Tuesday, he gave me this big guilt trip whether he realized it or not. But basically, I was telling him and my mom that Missy was going to pick me up to go to Betsy's. Well, when Donovan asked who Missy was, I said, my "other" little brother. Then he goes, "It seems like you spend more time with them than you do with us." And my mom goes, "That sounds like a cry for some attention."

(I HAD a really awesome entry... full of bickering dialogue between Donovan and I... I did. You're just gonna have to believe me. The rest of it was lost in cyberspace when Charter "High-Speed" Cable decided to tell me to fuck off. Grrr... By the way... this is the SAME Charter "High-Speed" Cable that someone came to the house to FIX TODAY!!!)

grace adler's wedding

Ya'll... okay. There are very few things that I cry for. But yes, I am a man with sensitive emotions and I do cry. I cried in Object of my Affection and I cry when I listen to "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. Tonight, I cried again. I was watching WiLL & GRACe... FAVORITE show. Well... It was Grace's wedding (yeah, a rerun, but whatever). When Will told Grace that he couldn't give her away, I cried. It showed just how much r-thingies mean between two people that aren't necessarily dating. Hmm...

Rule Number 19: The WiLL and GRACe Rule
Platonic r-thingies are incredibly special, and should never be taken for granted.

ham rule number 4

Oh look! An interactive blog entry!

You will need to reference this link for tonight's entry!

Well, Ham Rule Number 4... we should all know it by heart. It is the rule that I break the most... You can refresh your memory by clicking on the above link. Well, yesterday, I realized I was close to breaking Rule Number 4 again... but I didn't even want to blog about it, because I didn't want to start a whole lot of mess like i did in January about the crush. I hate looking back on that stuff... just like last April. I think, "Hmm... what did I do in April 2003? Oh, that's right, I crushed all month long." Same thing for January 2004. But, today, I thought about it, and I couldn't get it out of my head. Well, actually, it's STAYING in my head... I'm not about to tell this one... It doesn't matter. I don't see this person very often anyway. But, I will see them in the near future...

Anyway, I lost where I was going with this... and WiLL & GRACe is on in the background and distracting me. Lemme backtrack. I think I'm breaking rule number 4. I'm NOT gonna say who it is either, 'cause then I'd be breaking rule 9 (see the link above). And, I guess that's it. I'm sick of falling. When is someone gonna fall for me? Other people can break rule 4 as much as they want. They can break rule 9 and proclaim to themselves that it's me. But I'm tired of doing this to myself. So, I'm writing about it tonight, getting it off my chest, and then being done with it... and watching this individual go on with life like I don't really exist... it's okay... that statement wasn't meant to make you feel sorry for me. I'll be alright... I will. See rule number 8.

highway 93

Well... today was... different. I went someplace I had NEVER been before (and only want to go back under ONE circumstance).

Anyway, I went to the mall (that is not the place that I had never been before). Patrick was coming through on his way back from Raliegh, so we hung out there for a while. I bought some hella tight J. Crew sandals. That was fun.

Anyway, after that, I went to pick my brother up from school. All I have to say is, when I open a door to Eastside High School, a FLOOD of emotions come over me. Just being in that building and smelling it brings back so many fun memories. I went and visited Ms. Hardin, my chorus teacher... good times... she hasn't changed a bit...

THEN... I went to Clemson. To Betsy's little gathering... THIS is where I went to the "place" that I had never been before. Well, Missy picked me up from my house, since she was coming from Bawlin' Sprangs. On 123 in Easley, I told her how I was scared that Betsy's "Dinner Party" was gonna be the typical "white party" that I went to in middle and high school--where I would go to a party without eating, expect to eat something, and not eat anything, get home at 11 or 12 and be starving. My mom used to make so much fun of me and say, "You know they don't feed you at those white parties... What did you have at that last one?" and I would say, "well... fruit... and crackers... and chips... and peanuts..." and she would say, "You know at a black party, you'd have fried chicken, and sandwiches, and macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes..." It is very true... Anyway, in fear of Betsy's party being a "white party," we stopped at Dodge's in Easley. Well, after getting 50 hot wings, we started back for Clemson... but it didn't really turn out the way we had expected. We missed the turn to get back onto highway 123, so we realized we were on 93. 93 runs straight through Central (where Betsy's apartment is), and Clemson, so we figured if we stayed on it long enough, we would run into Central. Well... we started out, and did not know where we were. We figured we were in Liberty. Well, we were right... until Liberty ended and NORRIS began... after going to Clemson for 3 years, never had I ever known there to be a Norris, South Carolina close by. All I thought Norris was, was a frat dorm. Anyway, it didn't seem like Central was anywhere close by. So, we turned off of 93 when we saw a sign that said "to 123." I thought this was going to solve our problems. But no. "What? This is a field!" That was my reaction once we turned... a little later, my words were: "That is a man. On a tractor. In the road." I couldn't belive all that I was seeing... a little hokie town there in the middle of nowhere... with fields and men on tractors in the road. Wow. Luckily, we made it back to 123... yes. We got lost going to where we go to school... tragic? Yes. We get an F for tonight.

ANYWAY... tomorrow is gonna be pretty uneventful. And, I found out today that my parents are both gonna be out of town this weekend, so I have to take care of my brother... eh... it could be fun. My mom swears that he LOVES me so much and wants to spend TONS of time with me... which I don't have a problem with... but I think he doesn't care as much as my mom says. He's 2 months from 16, has a girlfriend and TONS of friends at school that he sees daily. I don't buy into the whole "He wants to hang out with his older brother thing." When I am at home, compared to him, I am pretty lame, if you ask me. But oh well... Until tomorrow...

g-vegas: day 1

Well, as you can see from the previous entry, today wasn't bad. I got the exciting news that I would be writing in Clemson University's newspaper, The Tiger. I'm really excited about that. The rest of the day was good too. I got a haircut... which was needed so bad that my dad got one of his barber friends to open up shop on a Monday... now, I dunno what the whole deal is with black hairdressers needing their Monday's off. I look at it as kinda like a sabbath for them... but what I don't understand is, is Sunday not enough rest? I guess they do it since they are open on Saturdays. Who knows. Anyway, this man GRACIOUSLY opened his shop for me and gave he the haircut I never had. The exciting thing about this haircut is that I now have a nicely groomed beard. Yeah, I know... it's kinda weird to hear me say I have a beard, but if you've seen me in the past month or so, you know that I have been trying to grow one... well, I really didn't want one... for two reasons: 1. My dad has a beard and people say I look like him already. I didn't want this final thing to make me look like a chip off of Toney's shoulder. 2. I'm 20. 20 year olds don't have beards. But Patrick's neighbor does, so that makes it a little better... hehe. Anyway, I have to admit, that I like what this man did to my face. It definitely looks better than it did (it was so bad that my brother had been calling me Ken... who is this man that is like 40 and has the most unkept looking facial hair ever... he has taco meet on his face). So, the beard gets diva points. *snap snap*

Later this evening, I went to Ruby Tuesday and had dessert while Betsy and Rob. It was SO much fun. Since I will be writing for the opinion column, I'll just go ahead and say that Rob works way better for Betsy than Andy. Betsy just seems so much more happy and even more spunky (yes, she can be even MORE spunky). Rob is an awesome guy. And he'll be living at The Reserve in the fall too!

Anyway, I'm gonna go. I'll write tomorrow... several times, prolly.

the tiger, part ii

Hey guys,

I wanted to let y'all know that we would like you to be regular columnists
for The Tiger next year. Basically, this means writing about every other
week, depending on your schedule. We are excited about next year, and I
look forward to sitting down and chatting with y'all about it sometime
right after we get back. Please feel free to let me know if you have any
questions, and I'll be in touch toward the end of the summer.

Thanks and congratulations,
Will

I'M GONNA BE WRITING FOR THE TIGER!!! I KNEW THIS BLOGGIN' THING WOULD TAKE ME PLACES!!!

home

So, after a LONG, wet, tiring day of moving my crap out of Mauldin and tying up loose ends, I am back home in Greenville. It's so crazy that in less than a week, I went from being busy beyond all reason with a job and a HUGE room, to being utterly bored out of my mind, unemployed, with a small room. ::sigh::

It is good to be home though. My mom fixed lasagna tonight... which was a welcome change from Harcombe and Schilletter. Unfortunately though... there are a few problems with being home. Like I said, my room is a wreck... this is mostly because it isn't as big as 3A7 Mauldin and I'm not really unpacking much since I'll only be here for 3 weeks. Secondly, my parents don't believe in AC until it is actually SUMMER. So, I am going to have to sweat it out with just the windows open in my room. Thirdly, the internet here sucks. I don't know what kind of cable server this is, but it sucks. I sat here for about 30 minutes a while ago trying to sign on... sometimes it will work, and then sometimes it won't... sometimes, I'll be in the middle of talking to someone and it will just shut off... I'll be surprised if it doesn't while I'm typing in here.

Anyway, I am hoping to write a lot since I have no schoolwork or RA responsibilities. That all depends on whether or not this internet provider decides to work when I want it to...

last night in 3a7 mauldin

I always reflect on my last day/night in my dorm room. I have done it ever since I have come to Clemson... 313 Geer... 421 B Stadium Suites... and now 3A7 Mauldin. I would have to say, that this has been the setting for the most interesting year since I have been at Clemson. First of all, it has served as an "office" for my RA job. I have lived and worked out of this room. Being an RA has been a really rewarding job, but now that it's over, I AM SO GLAD. I am glad that I don't have to be responsible for 18 year old guys doing stupid stuff like drawing penises on the walls or smoking in the building. Taking care of myself is enough responsibility.

This room was also home to Lee for the first semester. Even though I "picked" Lee to live with me, I didn't really EXPECT to have a person living with me first semester. That was a pretty difficult semester. In retrospect, Lee and I cannpt live together unless it is for only a week in a cabin with about 20 9-11 year old boys. Our living situation at camp worked out a lot better. This, however, taught me a lot about the person that I am growing up to be. It taught be about my habits, my pet peeves, and just how neat of a person I had become.

This room has SURPRISINGLY been a very effective think tank. Judging by the grades that are coming in, I did really well this semester. I was sure I was gonna drop back down to being a C student this year with all the stuff I am involved in, but it seems like this whole living alone thing has paid off. Sure I do spend too much time talking to people on AIM and blogging, but it doesn't look like it has hurt.

That leads me to my final thought about this room. I can't live alone. I really can't. It's JUST like the words to Theresa by Citizen Cope.

Your breathing
Don't happen
By yourself

Alone
Is no
Way to live

I always loved the words of that song... you know, the whole living alone thing... Just kinda went to show that everyone needs to be with someone else. Well, I really only referred to this song as a "lifelong way to live." I never really thought about it in the "college dorm" aspect. I thought that living alone in college would be GREAT. No roommate, no unwanted trash or noise, no one to upset. Well... let me be the first to say that living alone sucks like a Hoover. I don't like it. I haven't enjoyed it at all. I want to say a HUGE thanks to Nick and Patrick who would come over and keep me company in this big room. Their company has really showed me not only what true friendship is, but that we are going to have such a great time next year as roommates at The Reserve. My own room... but in an apartment with 3 other guys. It's gonna be great. I can't wait!

Anyway, I move out tomorrow at noon. I am really ready... weirdly enough, I'l be back here in 26 days... in the same building... only a different room. I'm ready... BRING ON THE SUMMER... BRING MAULDIN BACK ON... BRING ON SUMMER SCHOOL... BRING ON 21... BRING ON THE RESERVE!!!

...bring on an r-thingy too... that would be nice.
